Allick "Al" Bowlly. Al was a popular British Jazz singer/crooner in
the United Kingdom during the 1930s, making more
than 1,000 recordings between 1927 and 1941. Al
showcased a diverse range of material
unsurpassed by any contemporary. He was also an
international recording artist and perhaps the
worlds first pop star. He was killed inside his
flat when a parachute mine exploded on Jermyn
Street during the London Nazi Blitz.
